Participant Observation

Both my academic and industry research have consistently relied on participant observation.

A recent publication of mine examined how participants acting as lineup administrators behaved when given an ambiguous identification ("I don't know, it could be lineup member 3"). It was through participant observation we discovered participants produced guilt-presumptive behaviors when their belief of who the suspect is mis-matched that of the witness' ambiguous identification.

I've applied these skills to my UX research as well. I find it crucial to note interesting and/or unusual participant behavior throughout any research  methods that allow one to fully gauge users' mental models
